This clp was definitely one of my favorites. I love seeing organic farmers who love doing what they do and love giving back to the community and to the environment.
The "Growing Cities" documentary is a film about urban farming in America and how it changes the way we eat. I think that this film made me feel that everyone deserves to eat healthy, mostly low-income families, have the right to have access to healthy food. This film also showed that getting kids involved in the garden teaches them life skills that they maybe would not learn because of family and neighborhood reasons. Gardens and nature in general, I think, brings people together and makes them realize that they are the same. They all truly want good in this world and want to help people in need. Everyone deserves access to healthy food. Everyone needs another option besides McDonalds.
This film made me want to start an organic garden in a poverty area in the U.S. and grow fresh veggies and other various organic healthy foods so they will have the choice of having organic food. This is a serious issue and I truly believe that we can start more and more urban gardens and we can feed the whole country on organic farming.

Swamp Rabbit bike ride...
Just got back from a sketchy bike ride in the dark. I went with my friend, Mitchell. There needs to be lights on The Swamp Rabbit Trail. But other than the sketchy-ness, it was a fun short bike ride!
Here are some(not too good looking cause it was dark) pics...

Farmers Market Task-The Earth Market
The Earth Market, which is apart of the Slow Food Movement, only comes once a month to downtown Greenville. I found this market to be very unique, in that, it has no GMOs, totally local and organic food, and the farmer has to be present. It is the only one of its kind in the country. I found that really cool.
Logan and I went yesterday to check it out! It is a very small farmers market and they had a lot of different kinds of meat, but we still found some things to buy. This is what I bought:
The bread is AMAZING and the dark chocolate(which was pretty expensive, but oh well. I'm supporting local food so it's okay) is to die for! We had fun! AND we lucked out and got a parking spot right in front of the market! It was Definitely a successful trip!

Shi Center for Sustainability
My Ecos classmates and I are submitting a video for a contest in the South about how we handle/view Climate Change at Furman University and in the Greenville community. Each of us has a partner and we have a different part of campus/ initiative we are going to talk about for the video.
My partner and I are going to make our part of the video about The Shi Center for Sustainability(shown in these pics) and how many professors integrate sustainability into their coursework and research. I think this sustainability initiative on my campus is extremely important because people taking an English class or a Business and Accounting class can still learn about sustainability. I think this is awesome! Learning how to be sustainable in today's society is crucial. By incorporating this in other departments, besides the Environmental Department, helps educate more students about sustainability. It makes students more aware of what is going on and how they may want to change some of the things they do in their everyday lives.
The Shi Center is tremendously unique. Out of the 12 colleges I visited in the college-looking-process, this building at Furman stood out to me the most. I love how they have a building(a pretty looking one)dedicated to the sustainable practice on campus and in the community. Environmental or Sustainable majors can come and hang out and people who want to learn more about sustainability on campus/in the community can come and ask one of the nice employees. You can learn about the vital initiatives Furman is making to be more sustainable and also help educate others. Everyone should do their part in making their lives more sustainable.
