Shi Center for Sustainability
My Ecos classmates and I are submitting a video for a contest in the South about how we handle/view Climate Change at Furman University and in the Greenville community. Each of us has a partner and we have a different part of campus/ initiative we are going to talk about for the video.
My partner and I are going to make our part of the video about The Shi Center for Sustainability(shown in these pics) and how many professors integrate sustainability into their coursework and research. I think this sustainability initiative on my campus is extremely important because people taking an English class or a Business and Accounting class can still learn about sustainability. I think this is awesome! Learning how to be sustainable in today's society is crucial. By incorporating this in other departments, besides the Environmental Department, helps educate more students about sustainability. It makes students more aware of what is going on and how they may want to change some of the things they do in their everyday lives.
The Shi Center is tremendously unique. Out of the 12 colleges I visited in the college-looking-process, this building at Furman stood out to me the most. I love how they have a building(a pretty looking one)dedicated to the sustainable practice on campus and in the community. Environmental or Sustainable majors can come and hang out and people who want to learn more about sustainability on campus/in the community can come and ask one of the nice employees. You can learn about the vital initiatives Furman is making to be more sustainable and also help educate others. Everyone should do their part in making their lives more sustainable.
Will blog again soon,
Lettie
